The New Port is located about a 15-minute drive from Mykonos’ town center. It’s a good idea to arrive at the port early when waiting for your ferry, as it can get very crowded. However, as of 2019, all ferry traffic will use the New Port only. Until recently, the New Port served the large car-carrying ferries, while small passenger ferries arrived at the Old Port. Mykonos has both a New Port and an Old Port the two ports are located about 2 miles (3 km) apart. However, note that some rental companies will not allow you to transport cars between the islands be sure to check with your company beforehand. If you plan to rent a car on Mykonos, you will be able to take it with you to Paros on certain ferries for an additional fee. Some ferries are slightly faster than others-timings vary from 45 minutes to just over an hour. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during the high season (summer), as this route is very popular. Several ferries leave from Mykonos to Paros each day. To see both islands, plus Antiparos and Santorini, all in one memorable trip, you can check out this eight-day itinerary. Mykonos is well-known as one of the most scenic Cyclades islands, while Paros offers charm away from the crowds. Unless you have private water transport or are taking a boat tour, the only way to travel between the two is by ferry. Personally, I'd wait to buy my tickets until I knew which boat I might catch, but if peace of mind is your guide, by all means buy them on-line.Įnjoy Paros, and if you get to Antiparos, say Hi to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson:).The distance between the islands of Mykonos and Paros in the Cyclades is just 27 miles (43 km). It's a quarter mile walk from there to where the boats leave on the south end of the pier.Īs for tickets, in the old port a ticket agent is virtually part of the taverna I mentioned and in the new port a ticket agent is by where the ferries dock. Taxis and some bus service is available between town and the new port but considering your bags and penchant for caution (which I understand but do not practice:)), you might want to pass those hours in a taverna at the mouth of the new port-Matteo's. But if you're leaving by ferry, that means from the new port over a mile from town. If taking a catamaran from the old port, you can leave your bags at the taverna I mentioned I before (they check them as a courtesy) and walk the few hundred meters into town. On killing time: It depends on which port you're leaving from and whether you're willing to lug your bags with you wherever you go. Also a few hours sitting in the Mykonos sunshine with a cool drink is no great hassle. It will save you a lot of stress & possible extra expense. Personally, I would opt for safety & take the 5pm ferry. if you have prebooked them & miss the boat you will not get a refund. As you no doubt know, four tickets to Paros on the Seajet are not cheap. On the other hand, if you are one of the first to retrieve your luggage & get one of the waiting taxis you could be down to the ferry with lots of time to spare, This could create quite a delay in you getting down to the old port & you could miss your ferry. In July the airport may be more busy & if there a two aircraft unloading the delay may be greater, The luggage reclaim in Mykonos airport is fairly basic & it can take quite a bit of time to get your baggage.Īs RH suggests, taxis are limited on Mykonos & depending upon how quickly you get out ouf the airport the taxis may have all been hired. Ours was the only aircraft there & by the time we got out of the airport with our luggage it was 1.50pm. I flew into Mykonos at the end of May this year & our plane also landed at 1.15pm.
